Over 50 Years of Combined Experience

FAQs

  • How Do I Join?

Joining Lady Clay Shooters is as free and easy as busting a soft target. Simply join our email list to receive a personal reply from one of our board members. If you have additional questions, you may contact Gayla Cooper at (713) 515-3941.

  • What Equipment Do I Need?

Eye and ear protection are required at all times on the range for all shooters and spectators. Most gun ranges will have inexpensive ear plugs available, and your regular sunglasses will serve for eye protection.

Of course, you will also need a shotgun and ammunition. If you do not own a shotgun, some ranges have rental guns available. Check the range website you are visiting to learn if rental guns are available, and make sure you have the appropriate ammunition for the range.

  • What If I am a Beginner?

If you are a beginner, you are just the person we are looking for. Our spring and summer leagues are 76 targets nightly. This is a great way to start and build up stamina. Our group is very approachable, and someone will gladly take you under their wing and show you the ropes.

We will teach you shooting etiquette and gun safety and even give you some tips on smashing clays. We like to say, “If you are new to the group, you won’t be for long!”

  • What If I am Experienced?

While we welcome and encourage beginners, we also have a spot for you. Many of our ladies compete in charities and registered NSCA events. We are proud to say that some of our members have been named to the All-American Team.

Becoming a Lady Clay Shooter is a great way to meet other ladies who shoot competitively and find a shooting partner. It is always fun to see each other at events, practice target presentations, and visit new ranges around the state.

  • Can I Come and Observe?

Absolutely. We always welcome new shooters and spectators. Remember, eye and ear protection are required for everyone on the course. But this comes with a warning — once you come to visit, you will want to join!

  • What Can I Expect at a Shoot?

Fun, fun, and more fun! Prior to the shoot, you will find women milling about with their shotguns and clay carts, buzzing around and laughing, with a sense of excitement in the air. If you let us know ahead of time, we will have someone on the lookout for you and make sure you are grouped with seasoned shooters.

Our board members are easy to spot in our lime-green shirts. They, along with other members, will be more than happy to welcome you, teach you the routines and proper shooting etiquette, and even give you a few tips. Remember, we were all new to this at some point. Our goal is to make you feel welcome and have you return again and again.

  • How Often Do You Meet? Is There a Membership Fee?

We do not hold structured monthly meetings, nor do we charge for membership. Instead, we publish a calendar of events. You are welcome to participate in as many of these events as you would like. Members also get together informally to practice and shoot in other shoots not hosted by the group.

  • Is There a Minimum Age Required to Join?

Lady Clay Shooters welcomes sub-junior shooters under the age of 16 and junior shooters between the ages of 16 and 21. We ask that all shooters are able to load and handle a gun in a safe manner and are willing to attempt targets. If you are new to the sport, low-cost instruction is available prior to our event.

  • Do You Keep My Information Private?

Lady Clay Shooters keeps your information private and does not share our database with anyone. Your privacy is important to us.
